Eastbound lanes of 580 reopen after police search

Authorities in Oakland have reopened two lanes of eastbound I-580 and the 98th Avenue offramp after a search for suspects who crashed a vehicle on the freeway and fled the scene, according to CHP.

CHP tweeted about the incident shortly before 3:30 p.m. after a police pursuit of a wanted vehicle came to an end when the car, a black SUV, crashed near 98th Avenue.

Oakland police are reportedly searching for multiple suspects who fled the vehicle after the crash. Initially, the two eastbound lanes were closed in addition to the 98th Avenue offramp.

Oakland police said the search, which began at Oak Knoll Boulevard and Granada Avenue, was for a suspect vehicle from a robbery.

The vehicle apparently had four occupants, one of whom has already been detained, police said.

Skyfox footage show a number of police units in the residential area around 98th Avenue and Golf Links Road searching for the suspects. The perimeter of the search includes I-580.

As of 4:30 p.m., only the slow lane was still blocked, but traffic remained backed up in the eastbound direction. All lanes were reopened shortly after 5:30 p.m.

Drivers in the area are being advised to use 880 as an alternate route.
