Elderly woman robbed after man barges into San Jose home

Derico Montez Jones, 32, was arrested on Monday for robbery, kidnapping and elder abuse.

San Jose police say they arrested a suspect who robbed an 81-year-old woman of her jewelry Monday morning and then stuffed her in a closet.

The incident happened around 8:20 a.m. at a home in the 2600 block of Agua Vista Drive.

Investigators say the victim was about to walk out her home when the suspect, 32-year-old Derico Montez Jones, who was standing outside,  pushed her back inside the residence.

Jones allegedly stole jewelry from the woman and forced her into a closet.

The victim sustained minor injuries, authorities say.

By the time officers arrived at the home, he was gone.

Officers canvassed the neighborhood for evidence and obtained video footage of the suspect.

Detectives created a flyer and circulated it to patrol officers.

At around 1:30 p.m. an officer spotted Jones walking on E. Santa Clara St. at S. First St.

He was taken into custody without incident and the victim's jewelry was located on him.

Jones was booked into Santa Clara County Jail for Robbery, Kidnapping and Elder Abuse.
