'Everywon' race helps benefit community

KTVU is a media partner with Everywon, which is a unique footrace that benefits the community.

Not only do participants get exercise, they also raise money for groups in the community.

The event takes place Sunday, July 24th. The Everywon East Bay ½ Marathon and 5K takes place on scenic courses throughout Berkeley and Oakland.

Participants are encouraged to walk or run on behalf of their choice local charities.

Sixteen Bay Area non-profits will be selected to benefit from the event.

According to Tom Huston, founder of Everywon, "There is no limit to what can be accomplished through a team effort. We are working closely with each of the nonprofits to form teams of existing and new supporters to use our Everywon events as a powerful and empowering  fundraising force, in addition to seeking Company-led fundraising teams with employees in the communities we are trying to help. We believe that when everyone contributes, everyone wins."

A kickoff event will take place Thursday at Frank Ogawa Plaza between 4 and 6 p.m. Two-for-one registration will be offered at the event.

Anyone who signs up in May can get $10 off registration with the promo code KTVUCARES10.
