Fairfield police have arrested a 51-year-old woman for the drowning of her 4-year-old grandson.

The young boy drowned in a bathtub Tuesday morning at a Fairfield residence, police said.

Dawn Diana Raines-Hewes, of Fairfield, was arrested and booked Tuesday evening. She was taken to Solano County jail for murder and is being held without bail.

Police dispatch received the call at 10:51 a.m. that the young boy had drowned in the 1400 block of Jefferson Street.

Responders found the boy unconscious and not breathing. Efforts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful, according to police. He was taken to the hospital where he died at a trauma center.

Two other grandchildren, a 1-year-old girl and a 6-year-old girl were under the care of Raines-Hewes, but according to police, they were unharmed.

Police said the investigation is in its early stages and that information regarding a motive was not being released at the moment.
