PLEASANT HILL, Calif. - A fire broke out at the Hookston Senior Homes in Pleasant Hill on Thursday afternoon.
One victim with smoke inhalation was rushed to a hospital for treatment after being rescued from a balcony, according to the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
The two-alarm electrical fire was reported at 1:15 p.m. in an unoccupied unit at the Hookston Senior Apartments at 80 W. Hookston Road.
The male victim was in an adjacent unit. He suffered injuries while trying to escape through a hallway and had to be rescued from an apartment balcony, fire district spokesman Steve Hill said. He was taken to a hospital and an update on his condition was not immediately available.
All other residents were safely evacuated before the fire was knocked down shortly before 2 p.m., fire officials said. There were no additional injuries.
The fire remains under investigation.
