Fire damages 2 San Leandro businesses

SAN LEANDRO (BCN) - Fire officials are investigating a water main break Monday morning in San Leandro, just a block from where a four-alarm fire damaged two businesses earlier Monday morning.

At 2:34 a.m., fire officials first received a report of the fire in the 2100 block of Doolittle Drive, near Marina Boulevard.

The fire has since been extinguished, but damaged two businesses, Marina Supermarket and Thrifty Medical Supply.

Other businesses in the area may have sustained smoke damage as well, according to Alameda County Fire Department spokeswoman Aisha Knowles.

An apartment complex behind the structure fire was also evacuated as a precaution, fire officials said.

There have been no reports of injuries, according to Knowles. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The water main break happened a block from where the fire happened, at Barrow Street and Doolittle Drive.

Knowles could not confirm if the water main break was related to the fire.
