Fresno hiker dies after falling down 50-foot cliff

A 37-year-old Fresno woman has died after she fell 50 feet off a cliff while hiking.

Madera County sheriff's Cmdr. Tyson Pague tells KFSN-TV that Jaime Eischen and her boyfriend were hiking Wednesday along Cascadel Falls in Madera County.

Pague said Friday that Eischen crossed a stream and stepped on the edge of a cliff to explore a cave. Eischen stepped on debris that broke loose, causing her to fall down the cliff.

Eischen's boyfriend frantically called 911 and said he tried to revive her but that she was unresponsive. Paramedics also were unable to revive Eishcen, who died at the scene.

Pogue says the area is dangerous for both hikers and emergency crews.

He says Eischen's death is "a sad reminder that underneath all that beauty there's extreme danger."
