Wild beluga whales and dolphins will no longer be taken from the wild and put into Georgia Aquarium tanks, the aquarium announced Wednesday. It will make an exception for "rescue situations."

The Georgia Aquarium has decided that it will no longer seek to bring dolphins or beluga whales into human care from the wild, except in rescue situations.

The decision was made after two beluga whales died at the facility in the past year.

The move comes as the global public backlash against the keeping of whales and dolphins in captivity continues to grow.
