Grass fire burns in Mill Valley; SB direction of Hwy. 101

SAUSALITO (BCN) - Firefighters have deployed multiple engines and bulldozers as well as aircraft to a pair of roadside wildfires near U.S. Highway 101 in Sausalito, according to Marin County officials.

The fires were reported just before noon and are burning just north of Spencer Avenue.

The incident has led to traffic congestion on southbound Highway 101. All southbound lanes were blocked as of 12:38 p.m., but Marin County fire officials wrote on Twitter shortly before 1:30 p.m. that two southbound lanes reopened.

Fire officials are asking motorists to avoid Highway 101 in the area so emergency vehicles can access the scene.

Marin County fire officials said the fires are each roughly 1 to 2 acres in size. Forward progress has been stopped but the fires are not yet contained.

Sheriff's deputies issued an evacuation order for anyone in the Wolfback Ridge Road and Cloudview Trail areas, but that order has since been lifted.
