Henry Lee's Rap Sheet for Nov. 20, 2015

Daly City police need the public's help in identifying this alleged mail thief.

Here's the Rap Sheet for Nov. 20, 2015:

SERIAL SF BANK ROBBERY SUSPECT NABBED: A man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges that he robbed four San Francisco banks of more than $12,000 during a two-month spree.

Dangelo Deshawn Reed is accused of robbing the U.S. Bank at 2001 Mission St. of $1,308 on Sept. 18, the Wells Fargo at 468 Columbus Ave. of $110 on Oct. 9 and the Bank of the West at 2299 Market St. of $347 on Oct. 21.

His alleged largest haul was from the San Francisco Fire Credit Union at 565 Buckingham Way of $10,247 on Oct. 26.

While allegedly robbing the Bank of the West, Reed handed a teller a handwritten note that read, "This is not a joke, put the money in the bag, I have a gun," according to an affidavit filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco by FBI Special Agent Aleksandr Kobzanets.

Kobzanets wrote that he noticed similarities between surveillance photos of the Bank of the West robbers -- disseminated to law enforcement in a crime bulletin -- with the earlier holdups.

San Francisco police arrested Reed on Nov. 3 after a foot chase during an unrelated investigation, authorities said. One of the officers realized that Reed looked like the suspect from the crime bulletin, Kobzanets wrote. Police found a gun they believe Reed hid underneath a trash can during the chase, investigators said.

Officers also found a silver Audi A6 sedan with paper license plates nearby that matched the description of a car spotted by a security guard at the credit union, the affidavit says.

KNOW THIS ALLEGED MAIL THIEF?: Daly City police want to identify a man they say was caught on camera stealing mail from a home on Schwerin Street.

The theft happened about 4:40 p.m. Thursday. He ran across the street into the Midway Village Housing Complex. Anyone with information is asked to call police at (650) 991-8119.

THERE'S (BLUE) AND GOLD (COPS) IN THEM THAR HILLS: Looks like UC Berkeley cops are keeping busy enforcing traffic laws in the hills above campus.

On Tuesday alone, UCPD Officer Barry Boersma stopped a 30-year-old university employee for speeding near Building 23 at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

He later stopped a 28-year-old student for speeding on Chu Road near Perlmutter Road near the lab.

Later that evening, Boersma reported that he had identified a reckless driver from an earlier incident on Centennial Drive west of Strawberry Gate.

Two hours after that, police assisted Oakland police and firefighters with a minor-injury crash on Grizzly Peak east of Centennial.

The hills can be perilous. Drivers (and hikers) have fallen off Grizzly Peak because of the treacherous terrain and twists and turns in the road.

CRIME FILES SUNDAY NIGHT: Join me about 10:45 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22 as Oakland police discuss their efforts to clean up blighted properties in East Oakland with the help of neighbors and many city agencies.
