Highway death shuts down Interstate 880 for a few hours Saturday morning

Hayward, Calif. (KTVU and wires) -- A section of Interstate Highway 880 in Hayward was closed for about two miles Saturday morning, because of a person who deliberately fell to his death, CHP said.

The incident was first reported at 5:20 a.m. Saturday, in the southbound lanes of the highway, near the Tennyson Road off-ramp, according to the CHP.

A Sig-alert was issued at 5:50 a.m., due to blocked lanes. The alert was cancelled about 90-minutes later.

Information about the person who died was not immediately available, but the Alameda County Coroner's Office was dispatched to the scene to remove the body.
