A homeowner trying to stop a car burglary in front of his home in Gilroy was shot "multiple" times in the leg early Friday morning, police said.

Gilroy Police Sgt. Jason Smith said the man is expected to recover and three suspects, which include juveniles, were eventually taken into custody.

Smith said that police were called out to Hyde Park and Victoria Drive shortly before 3 a.m. on report of "suspicious" activity -- there have been several car burglaries reported in the past. As they were responding to that call, police received another call about a shooting.

They found that a homeowner had tried to stop two suspects from stealing a car and while he was arguing with the thieves, a third suspect shot him "multiple" times, Smith said.

One suspect was arrested on scene, and two others were taken into custody at a cul de sac on Ervin Court and Montery Road after police and Santa Clara County sheriff's deputies, armed with guns, swarmed the nearby neighborhood. A fourth suspect was arrested on Princevalle Street, police said.
