Hundreds line up for new Kanye West shoe at San Francisco's Union Square
SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - You’ve heard of fans lining up for rap concerts, but on Saturday morning, hundreds of shoe lovers lined up in San Francisco’s Union Square outside Barneys for Kanye West’s new Yeezy 350 Moonrock shoes.
The new sneakers are so hot, store associates armed with clipboards and wristbands had to come out to organize the line where customers, prepared to stand for hours and shell out $200, essentially had to win a raffle for the best spot.
Some people wore the previous version of the Grammy award-winning hip-hop artist’s kicks The line wrapped around the retail location with shoe enthusiasts hopeful of getting their size, but there were no guarantees with the high demand.
Mikah Tran who was standing in the middle of the line explained how the Moonrock essentially was a description of the color of the shoe.
“In my honest opinion, what has these people in line is the name. If these shoes did not have the word Kanye attached to it, I honestly think they’d just sit and not sell at all,” Tran said. “Shoes are shoes. If they’re comfortable, you wear them.” He was very politely critiquing KTVU reporter Christien Kafton’s and his cameraman’s shoes.
