Jada Pinkett Smith, Spike Lee to boycott Oscars

This is an image taken from a video that Jada Pinkett Smith posted on Facebook explaining that she will not attend nor watch the Oscars this year.

In a video posted on her Facebook page actress Jada Pinkett Smith says she will not attend the Academy Awards ceremony nor will she watch it on TV.  It comes after no one of color was nominated in a major category for the second year in a row.

Her husband, Will Smith, was one of the people who some claimed was snubbed when he did not get a nomination for the film "Concussion."

The 2-and-a-half minute video, with the caption "We must stand in our power.", was posted early Monday and had already been viewed more than 3-million times in 8 hours.

Reaction in comments on the video was split.

The video came a day after she posted:  "At the Oscars...people of color are always welcomed to give out awards...even entertain, but we are rarely recognized for our artistic accomplishments. Should people of color refrain from participating all together? People can only treat us in the way in which we allow.  With much respect in the midst of deep disappointment, J."

Actor and director Spike Lee also said that he would not attend this year's ceremony.
