K-9 sniffs out 263 pounds of pot

A police K-9 named Chase is being credited with sniffing out approximately 238 pounds of marijuana.

Just after Midnight on Wednesday, deputies with the Shasta County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a Jeep Wrangler pulling a U-Haul trailer on Eureka Way at California St. for vehicle code violations.

A subsequent search of the U-Haul trailer was conducted after a positive alert from Shasta County Sheriff's Office K-9 "Chase". 

The search resulted in the seizure of 263 pounds of processed marijuana in packaged in one pound baggies. 

The driver, Tyson Scharf, age 27, from Rocklin and the passenger identified as David Mireles, age 31, from San Francisco were arrested for possession of marijuana for sale and for transportation of marijuana. 

Both men were booked into the Shasta County Jail.
