Little girl loses battle to rare form of brain cancer

A brave little girl from Martinez who won the hearts of her community has lost her battle against cancer.

Melody Massuk died Thursday night, at age six.

Her mother posted the tragic news on Facebook saying, "Melody, my sweet, king, and loving daughter died peacefully in my arms.."

Early last year, she was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer that only a few hundred people each year are diagnosed with.

The little girl's tumor has now been donated to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital for research in the effort of finding a cure for this form of brain cancer.

Her mother, Melissa, says, "Melody was an extraordinarily kind, thoughtful, and loving child. She cared so much about the happiness of all she loved. With that said, I'm asking that in lieu of flowers please consider doing a random act of kindness in her honor."
