Malech Fire burns 210 acres, 70% contained in Santa Clara County

A vegetation fire just east near U.S. Highway 101 between South San Jose and Morgan Hill in Santa Clara County has now consumed approximately 210 acres and is 70 percent contained, Cal Fire is reporting.

The fire, dubbed the Malech Fire after the nearby Malech Road, was first reported at about 3:15 p.m. Sunday. The San Jose Fire Department is helping Cal Fire fight the fire.

The entire Bay Area will be under a "red flag warning" throughout the weekend, brought on by a combination of hot temperatures, strong winds and an abundance of dry vegetation.

Update 6:57 p.m. - Cal Fire is reporting containment is up to 70%, acreage remains at 210. 

Update 5:45 p.m. - Cal Fire updated the size of the fire to 210-acres, 50% contained.

Update 5:19 p.m. - Cal Fire updated the size of the fire to 100-acres, 30% contained with forward spreading stopped.

Update 4:12 p.m. - Cal Fire has updated the size, now at 75-acres.

Update 3:25 p.m. - The size of the fire is now at 40-acres.
