Man arrested for arson at Palo Alto hotel

Police arrested a man for arson, among other charges, after he set fire to a hotel in Palo Alto.

Crews responded to the Glass Slipper Inn Tuesday at 8:48 p.m.

According to Palo Alto Police, the fire was coming from a hotel room on the second floor. Crews could see flames coming from inside the room, since the door was open.

When crews arrived, no one was in the room.

All of the hotel guests were evacuated.

Crews worked to put out the fire, and fire damage was kept to one hotel room.

Crews determined the fire was suspicious.

Investigators learned a woman in her twenties had rented the room.

They learned her estranged husband, who she had a no-contact domestic violence restraining order against, was in her room before the fire. The pair allegedly had a verbal argument. The woman left her estranged husband in the room and later received a call about the fire.

At about 10:20 p.m. police located the suspect. He pointed a large pocket knife at an officer, according to police. Police learned he had an outstanding felony warrant for a probation violation, and was also in possession of methamphetamine and narcotics paraphernalia.

Twenty-two-year-old Miguel Angel Gamero of East Palo Alto was booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.

No one was injured in the fire.
