Man critically injured in hit-and-run crash

BENICIA, Calif. (KTVU) – Investigators are asking the public for help to find a hit-and-run driver that struck and critically injured a pedestrian this weekend.

It happened on Sunday, June 21st at 2:08am at the intersection of East 5th Street and Military East.

Police say that a vehicle traveling westbound Military East had hit a pedestrian crossing the street and then left the scene.

The 23 year old male pedestrian was taken to John Muir Medical center, Walnut Creek where he is being treated for head injuries.

The family of the pedestrian contacted KTVU and identified him as Louis Torres.

They also say his condition is grave, "Unfortunately, Louis is not expected to live through the night. He is currently on life support…"

Benicia Police say the vehicle involved in this accident is still outstanding.

They describe it as an older model Honda or Nissan sedan, gray or silver in color and it is missing the left rear hub cap.
