Man dies in Hwy 4 crash near Martinez

A 29-year-old man died in a crash on Tuesday night on state Highway 4 near Martinez, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Contra Costa County coroner's office today identified Michael Burrie, of Concord, as the man whose pickup truck went off the highway's eastbound lanes and overturned.

Burrie was ejected from his truck during the crash, which occurred at 9:46 p.m. near the Interstate Highway 680 connector between Martinez and the community of Pacheco, CHP officials said.

His truck overshot the highway's southbound connector ramp and went into a dirt embankment, according to the CHP.

The truck was launched into the air after traveling up an incline on the embankment's other side and overturned when it landed, according to the CHP.

CHP officials said it appeared that Burrie, who was the only person in the truck, was not wearing a seatbelt.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
