Emergency responders rescued a man who was moderately injured after he fell more than 50 feet down a cliff Saturday afternoon at Fort Funston.

San Francisco firefighters responded to the cliff fall shortly after 3 p.m. and located the man down on the beach.

Firefighters called animal control officials for backup because the victim had a large and protective dog that wasn't injured, according to fire officials.

After more than two hours on the scene, fire officials said the scene was "contained."

The man was taken to a local trauma center and the dog was placed under the care of animal control officials.
