Man killed, woman injured in shooting at vigil in Bay Point

BAY POINT, Calif. (BCN Wires/KTVU)-A man was killed and a woman was injured in a shooting in Bay Point where a vigil for a 2009 murder victim was taking place on Friday night, Contra Costa County sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said Saturday.

Deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Marin Avenue and Willow Pass Road around 9:40 p.m. Arriving deputies found a 40-year-old man who was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency crews.

A 22-year-old woman was injured at the scene and transported to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek for injuries not considered life-threatening..

A crowd was in the area Friday night for a vigil celebrating the birthday of a man who was killed there in 2009.

Witnesses reported that a person had fled the scene after the shooting. Detectives are working to determine the suspect's identity and motive.
