A North Bay family is pleading for the return of a loved ones' stolen ashes.

75-year-old Sally Zaret died last month of cancer.

Her family planned to scatter her cremated remains on the Sonoma County coast and in the Sierra foothills.

But on Sunday morning, the family says someone broke into their garage, and stole hundreds of dollars worth of tools, and an un-marked plastic box, containing the ashes.

Sally's husband says it's like he's lost his wife all over again.

"I don't know why they didn't open up the lid and see what it was. I mean, seemed to know where everything else is. I don't understand. All i want is my wife back," said Bill Clouse.

The family hopes whoever has the rectangular black box will return it, no questions asked.

A drop-off point might be the Santa Rosa Cemetery nearby, which has been alerted to the theft.
