Man survives crash, fall from San Francisco freeway

A man survived after crashing and having his SUV fall from an overpass in San Francisco.

The CHP tells KTVU the man was driving his SUV southbound on 280, exiting at Cesar Chavez, when he lost control of the vehicle.

The SUV flew over the side of the freeway and fell 60 feet to the ground below.

The man, who is in his twenties, was able to pull himself out of the wreckage of the SUV. He was treated at the scene for some minor cuts to his arms.

A CHP officer said, "You don't normally walk away from a 60 foot drop in a vehicle especially when you've been doing freeway speed and not have more serious injuries. So he's a very lucky young man,"

The CHP says they do not believe the young man was under the influence and they don't believe any other cars were involved. They're trying to figure out why he lost control. He says somehow his tires lost their traction with the road.

At this point, additional details have not been released.
