MARTINEZ, Calif. - A woman was killed in a crash near Martinez on Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Solo-vehicle crash

What we know:

The CHP Contra Costa division reported that the solo-vehicle crash occurred around 10:32 a.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 680, south of Marina Vista.

Authorities said a white Dodge Caravan, occupied by a man and a woman, veered off the right shoulder, returned to the road, and crashed into a concrete center divider before flipping over. Investigators are probing what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.

The woman was ejected from the van and died at the scene. The other victim was transported to a local hospital with major injuries.

Unclear who was driving

The CHP has not disclosed who was driving the van, but neither victim was wearing a seatbelt during the crash.

Authorities have not determined whether driving under the influence was a factor. The crash remains under investigation.
