Mother drives wounded child to hospital after East Oakland shooting

OAKLAND, Calif. (KTVU) - Oakland Police Department confirms a child was shot tonight at the 6500 block of Simson Street in East Oakland. 

The child is alert, talking with doctors and is in stable condition with a superficial gunshot wound to the forearm, after being driven to Children's Hospital by their mother. The child is expected to make a full recovery. 

Police say the shooting occurred around 8:50 p.m.  

It is not clear if there is any suspect information at this time. Police are investigating the shooting.
