No injuries after limo bursts into flames on South Bay freeway
SAN JOSE, Calif. (KTVU) -- Authorities in the South Bay are investigating a limo that caught on fire near the Stevens Creek Boulevard exit on I-280 early Wednesday evening, according to CHP.
The fire was first reported shortly before 6 p.m. according to CHP reports. The CHP said the limo was carrying six people belonging to the band Red Dragon Cartel which features former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Jake E. Lee.
Officers said the band members and the driver noticed an electrical short. When they saw smoke, the driver quickly evacuated the limo.
The fire temporarily shut down two lanes and there were some traffic delays.
San Jose resident Aldin Wong tweeted out several images of the 30-foot stretch Hummer limo on fire.
In one photo, some people can be seen standing on the roadside behind the vehicle. The logo of the Rockbar Theater, a nightclub in San Jose where Red Dragon Cartel is scheduled to play Thursday, can be seen on the back of the limo in another picture.
There were no reports of injuries.
Fire units and a tow truck responded to the scene. By 7:15 p.m., the vehicle had been loaded onto a flatbed truck to be removed from the freeway.
The incident was a frightening reminder of a limo fire two years ago on the San Mateo Bridge that killed five women.
