Nude statue in San Leandro gets mixed reactions

A 55-foot tall statue of a nude woman, revealed this week in San Leandro, is getting some mixed reactions.

The "Truth is Beauty" sculpture was unveiled this week.

The artist behind it says it represents female empowerment and strength.

Inscribed on the base of the statue reads, "What would the wordl be like if women were safe?".

The statue sits at the entrance of the new San Leandro Tech campus and next to the San Leandro BART station.

Some people say the statue is a good thing for the city,  but others say it is not appropriate.

One Oakland resident Triena Bilal says, "It's out of place. We have too many kids and families going up and down the street."

Katelyn Tucker, a San Leandro resident says, "You have to be a little uptight to be upset about it. But yeah I think it's a fabulous sculpture. I'm really excited about it".

The statue was first displayed at the Burning Man Festival three years ago.
