Beer at a ballgame and you don’t have to miss anything on the field? Glorious.

A’s fans can enjoy a beer purchased from an in-seat vendor starting Thursday night at the Coliseum when the A’s host the Kansas City Royals. They're only the second California team to unveil this offering since the mid-1980s

If you’re 21 or older, you can snag a brew from vendors carrying a variety of choices. A 16-ounce aluminum bottle will cost you $9.00. The move was made possible following a recent amendment to the Coliseum’s liquor license.

“This is another example of our commitment to the fan experience. In-seat beer service provides convenience to our fans and also helps to alleviate congestion at our concession stands and throughout the concourses,” said A’s President Dave Kaval. “We are excited to be one of the first teams in California to offer this amenity to our fans once again.”

Prior to the San Diego Padres kicking off in-seat beer sales on May 28, no professional sport facility in California had offered the service since the mid-1980s. And the new rollout also creates 40-50 part-time jobs, according to the team. They’ll be hiring new employees to fill vendor and supervisory staff positions.

With the announcement comes a push for fans to drink responsibly. Anyone with a valid driver’s license who is 21 or older can participate in the A’s Designated Driver Program. Sign up for the program at Guest Services hubs inside the ballpark. Find them at section 101, 126, 134, and 217.

“Guests are asked to pledge to stay sober and be a designated driver for their party in exchange for a free soda to be redeemed during that day’s game,” the team said in a statement.

Designated driver participants will also be entered into raffle for a chance to win tickets to a 2018 World Series game or the 2019 MBL All-Star Game.
