One dead in fiery big rig crash
SONOMA COUNTY, Calif. - The California Highway Patrol is reporting a fatal crash involving a big-rig on southbound Lakeville Highway in Sonoma County late this morning.
The big-rig caught fire on the shoulder of the road when it struck a tree in the 6300 block of Lakeville Highway south of Old Lakeville Road No. 2 south of Petaluma around 11:45 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Sonoma County sheriff's deputies called for the coroner's office around 12:20 p.m.
Lakeville Highway is closed between state Highway 116/Stage Gulch Road and state Highway 37, according to the CHP.
The only portion of the big-rig that is left is the tractor-trailer down to the frame and engine, according to the CHP.
