One dead, one critically injured in crash on I-880
SAN LEANDRO, Calif. (KTVU) - One person is dead and another is critically injured after an early morning crash on an East Bay freeway.
Witnesses say a white Dodge Charger was driving extremely fast on Southbound I-880 in San Leandro just before 3 a.m. Sunday.
Other drivers tell the highway patrol that the car veered out of control and crossed all of the lanes before slamming into the guard rail and ricocheting into a freeway sign pole.
The CHP says the driver died at the scene and the passenger was taken to the hospital.
The Alameda County coroner's bureau has identified Jajuan Morton, 23, of Michigan, as the man who died.
Officers say both victims are men and believed to be in their early 20s. Their names have not been released yet.
The CHP is also trying to figure out if drugs or alcohol may have contributed to the crash.
