Pedestrian hit, killed in San Jose

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KTVU) - An 18-year-old motorist struck and killed a man who was using a crosswalk Wednesday night in San Jose, police said.
San Jose police said officers responded at 9:40 p.m. to reports of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian at the intersection of Hostetter Road and Lundy Avenue.
An investigation revealed that a driver was traveling south on Lundy Avenue in a Mercedes Benz when he struck a 22-year-old man who was crossing at Hostetter Road, police said.
The driver, who was not identified by police, apparently had a green traffic light. He cooperated with the investigation and police said alcohol or drugs are not considered factors in the incident.
The pedestrian was taken to a hospital but he was eventually pronounced dead. The release of his identity is pending the notification of the next of kin, police said.
San Jose police said this is the 55th fatal collision in the city this year.
