A pickup truck struck and killed a man while he was crossing a street in Napa this morning, a police corporal said.

The man was crossing Soscol Avenue north of Vallejo Street and was hit by a Chevrolet Silverado while walking toward the Central Valley Builders hardware store around 11 a.m. He was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa and died shortly after arrival, Cpl. Dominic Deguilio said.

The male driver of the full-sized truck stopped at the scene. There is no crosswalk where the collision occurred, Deguilio said.

Northbound Soscol Avenue between Vallejo Street and Imperial Way closed after the collision and is not expected to reopen until around 3 p.m. Motorists are advised to avoid the area, Deguilio said.
