Pedestrian suffers major injuries after car strikes them in Newark

A pedestrian suffered major injuries this morning after a car struck them in Newark, according to police.

The collision was first reported around 6 a.m. on Mowry Avenue, somewhere between Cherry Street and Cedar Boulevard, police dispatcher said.

The victim was taken to a hospital.

Police have closed the eastbound lanes on Mowry Avenue in the area as they investigate the crash. They're expecting to reopen the lanes by mid-afternoon, police said. 

Traffic in the area is currently being redirected, according to police.
