Petaluma driver hits two cars, stop sign, fence
PETALUMA (BCN) - An alleged drunk driver smashed into another car, then hit a second car, then demolished a stop sign and a fence in Petaluma Saturday night before officers nabbed him, police said.
Kenneth McConnell, 61, of Petaluma, was arrested on suspicion of felony hit and run, felony driving under the influence and two counts of misdemeanor hit and run and booked into the Sonoma County Jail with $100,000 bail, according to police.
Police say McConnell collided with an occupied vehicle near the intersection of East D Street and Copeland Street around 10 p.m., then hit a stop sign and a parked vehicle near the intersection of East D Street and Wilson Street.
Continuing on in his travels, McConnell fled, crossing several lanes of traffic and hitting the curb, busting a tire, according to police.
Undeterred by the flat tire, McConnell continued driving, crashing into a fence mid-block on Appaloosa Circle, police said. By now, a group of witnesses had spotted McConnell and his wounded Chevy and followed him, detaining him until officers arrived, police said.
McConnell was treated for minor injuries, arrested and taken to jail, according to police. The driver of the occupied vehicle was treated for minor injuries and released.
The collisions are still under investigation and anyone who saw them is asked to contact Officer Alec Thompson at (707) 778-4372.
