Photo captures police officer comforting dying patrol horse

(KTVU) - A photo of a Houston police officer comforting his dying patrol horse is capturing the hearts of people around the country.
The horse, named Charlotte, was a member of the Houston Police Department Mounted Patrol. She died in the line of duty last week after being hit by a car.
A photo posted on the Animal Justice League Facebook page shows the officer laying with the horse as she died.
The Houston Police Department said Charlotte had been with the department for four years and “was always ready to go to work putting bad guys in jail or giving nuzzles to children.”
The cause of the accident is under investigation, but local news stations reported the horse got spooked and accidentally ran into traffic.
