Pinole Valley High School students hospitalized after taking Xanax

Several students at Pinole Valley High School have been taken to an area hospital after taking Xanax, according to a school official.
Officials at the school say seven students took a controlled substance. Concerns about their well-being surfaced at lunchtime when they started acting strangely.
"Teachers and staff noticed that about seven students were acting in a way that gave them concern and notified health officials and law enforcement," said West Contra Costa Unified School District spokesperson Marcus Wilson.
Health officials confirmed the students were under the influence of Xanax, a prescription drug used to treat anxiety.
Five students were taken to the hospital and two students went home with their parents.
It's still not known how much they ingested or where they got it.
