Pleasanton boy loses cancer battle
PLEASANTON, Calif. - A Pleasanton boy who was diagnosed with a rare cancer after collapsing on a Pleasanton baseball field last year has died.
12-year-old Dillon O'Leary died Sunday morning. A message posted to the "Dillon Strong" Facebook page reads, "Dillon Patrick O'Leary has been freed of his cancer and his pain! The good Lord decided today at 10:20 AM that he needed this Angle to come and fight his fight! We will have more to say later however at this time we want to say THANK YOU EVERYONE ! For your Prayers and support!"
Dillon suddenly collapsed in May 2015 and was rushed to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital where he was placed in a medically induced coma.
He remained at the hospital for months and was released around this time last year to be home in time for Thanksgiving.
The community rallied around Dillon, hosting several fundraisers to help pay for his medical bills.
Funeral services for Dillon have not yet been announced.
