Pod of killer whales spotted swimming in Monterey Bay

A pod of orcas, also known as a killer whales, were spotted swimming off the Monterey Coast Sunday morning.

This particular species is common in the region during this time of year, according to the Marine Mammal Center.

Spokeswoman Laura Sherr said whales swimming in the Pacific is exactly what they're supposed to do.

She did note, however, that there was an extremely rare sighting of a pod of 24 Baird's beaked whales in the same area last week.
