Police arrest 4 teens suspected of starting Gilroy fire

GILROY, Calif. (AP) - California police say they've arrested four teens in connection with a fire that burned 100 acres (400,000 sq. meters) of land in Gilroy, south of San Francisco.

San Jose Mercury News reports police announced Thursday that four teens between the ages of 14 and 15 were arrested after they were suspected of starting the fire and have since been released to the custody of their parents. The case was forwarded to the Santa Clara County Juvenile Probation Department. An investigation continues.

According to police, the teens were seen playing with illegal fireworks on Sunday. Police say a fire broke out and the teen tried to put it out, but it quickly spread out of control.

Cal Fire says the fire was 100 percent contained as of Thursday.
