Police search for escaped suspect in San Jose

In the South Bay, the search continues Wednesday night for a man who slipped his handcuffs and escaped from bail bond agents in San Jose.

Police said 30-year-old David Nghounoi escaped from custody Wednesday afternoon while being taken to jail.

He was being brought in because he had failed to appear in court on charges of assault and residential burglary.

He's described as Vietnamese, about 5-foot 11-inches tall with a thin build and a tattoo on his neck.

Police are searching neighborhoods near the jail where he made his escape.

"He got away from them, ran from them, and they immediately flagged down officers," said San Jose Police Lt. Rick Weger. "We have had a few reports of his location and that's why we are searching in those neighborhoods."

Officers were using K-9 units and going house to house searching for the man.

They set up a perimeter near north 2nd and East Taylor streets, but so far the suspect remains at large.
