Police search for SF Union Square assault suspect

SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU and wires) – Detectives asked for the public's help Wednesday in identifying a suspect who punched a woman near San Francisco's Union Square.

San Francisco police said the incident took place on May 9th at around 11:05 a.m. near the corner of Grant and Geary.

The suspect randomly approached a 38-year-old woman, called her a derogatory name and attacked the victim by punching her in the face and knocking her to the ground.

The injured woman was taken to the hospital for treatment of facial injuries.

The suspect is described as being as a white male, about 5"6" with brown hair and wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt, dark jeans and dirty shoes
