A 46-year-old Watsonville woman is accused of hitting her husband with her car and killing him during an argument on Saturday night.

Eugenia Olivarez faces charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence.

Police received a report of a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian in the 300 block of Manor Avenue at 8:47 p.m. on Saturday night.

Officers arrived to find the victim, Jaime Rodriguez, 37, dead in the roadway.

His wife was found a short distance away, outside her home sitting in her vehicle, police said.

Investigators said they learned that the couple was at a gathering on Manor Avenue earlier and had got into an argument.

Olivarez got into her vehicle to leave and Rodriguez tried to stop her.

He was apparently hanging onto the car as his wife started driving away, but he fell to the ground and was then struck by the vehicle.

Olivarez was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI causing death, according to police.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to contact the Watsonville Police Department's investigation division at (831) 768-3350 or a tip line at (831) 768-3544.
