Residual delays on BART after insulator blows

BART is recovering from major delays caused by smoldering debris under the track the agency said Friday evening.

Trains had to single track through the Transbay Tube for what was initially reported as an equipment problem on the tracks.

Trains started single tracking around 6:15 p.m. according to a transit agency spokesman.

BART said on Twitter that the delays were in both directions.

The delay stemmed from a blown insulator that apparently caused a small fire in the tube, BART spokesman Chris Filippi said.

Response crews arrived on scene and were able to extinguish flames caused by burning debris under the track, according to Filippi.

BART is beginning to recover from the incident and riders should expect residual delays.
