Firefighters have extinguished an RV fire on northbound U.S. Highway 101 in San Carlos that temporarily shut down traffic in both directions this evening. Two northbound lanes and all southbound tlane raffic is moving again.

California Highway Patrol tweeted shortly before 6:30 p.m. that southbound lanes reopened. The remaining northbound lanes remain closed between Woodside Road and Holly, according to CHP.

The incident was reported around 4:30 p.m.

Just after 5 p.m. firefighters reported on social media that units were on the scene. They have water on the fire and are maintaining a 300-foot distance from the blaze.

Redwood City firefighters said the RV contained a 50-gallon propane tank and four hobby rockets, which led them to call out a hazardous materials team to get readings at the scene before reopening the highway as a precaution. The vehicle was apparently returning from a hobby rocket show, according to firefighters.

CHP said people could be seen exiting the vehicle.

There is no estimate for when the remaining lanes will reopen. Further details were not immediately available.
