San Francisco K-9 dies due to illness
SAN FRANCISCO (KTVU) - A K-9 with the San Francisco Police Department has died due to an illness.
According to the San Francisco Police Department, Cavik was an 8-year-old Belgian Malinois Shepherd.
He was born in the Netherlands in 2009 and joined the San Francisco Police Department in 2011.
Cavik was trained in patrol and explosive detection. Cavik, along with Officer Matt Maciel, patrolled the streets and helped with suspect searches, explosive sweeps for dignitary visits and large venues, and assisted in S.W.A.T operations. Cavik also performed canine demonstrations.
