San Jose police investigate deadly hit and run

San Jose police are investigating a deadly hit and run Friday morning.

According to police a vehicle hit a pedestrian at about 4:51 a.m. in the area of Delmas Avenue and Santa Clara Street.

Police say a full size white pick-up truck was headed southbound on Delmas Avenue and hit the pedestrian.

According to witness statements, the suspect's vehicle veered into lanes of oncoming traffic and hopped onto a sidewalk, potentially hitting or clipping a person riding a bike.

Police say they're speculating the driver panicked, put the vehicle in reverse to flee the scene, and actually ran over the suspect again.

The truck didn’t stop, continued on Delmas Avenue and did not return to the scene.

When officers arrived they found a man suffering from serious injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traffic in the area will be affected throughout the morning commute while officers investigate.

As of 6:30 a.m. westbound and eastbound Santa Clara Street remained closed between the Highway 87 off-ramp and Autumn Street.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as an early 90’s white, full size pick-up truck.

The truck should have some front driver side damage near the fender area.

At this point additional details have not been released.
