San Jose police investigating city's 20th homicide of the year

San Jose Police are investigating the city's 20th homicide of the year.

Authorities announed that at about 9:30 a.m. Friday, officers responded to a call of a burglary in progress at a home on the 3200 Block of Montecito Drive, Mackin Woods Lane in San Jose.

Just as officers arrived, they spotted a vehicle leaving the area. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, and briefly chased it, said police.

But officers called off the chase, due to safety concerns.

Police checked the home, and discovered that someone had broken into the residence.

Officers found the body of an 84-year-old man suffering from life-threatening injuries.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police department's homicide and crime scene investigators have been called to the home.

The motive and circumstances surrounding the homicide are under investigation

Police have not made any arrests.

The identity of the victim will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office after the medical examiner confirms the identity and notifies the next of kin.
