San Leandro man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend charged with murder

A 19-year-old San Leandro man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend was charged with her murder Wednesday. 

The body of 18-year-old Mariah Davis of Richmond was found Monday at Lake Chabot Regional Park. He told police they could find her body near the dam. 

Davis had been missing since last Wednesday when the two had lunch togethe. Her mother said they had dated in high school. 

"She was a sweet girl. She tried to help people. kI think that's what she was doing. With her ex, trying to help him. Look at him now. She's dead," said Alfreda James, Davis' mother. 

According to authorities, Pimentel admitted to strangling Davis. He did not appear in court on Wednesday, but his arraignment is set for next month.
