San Leandro police make arrest in I-880 shooting
SAN LEANDRO (BCN) - A Berkeley man was shot and killed on Interstate Highway 880 in San Leandro early Saturday morning as officers investigated a crash scene nearby, police said Monday.
The victim was identified today as 37-year-old Miguel Corrales-Rosales, according to police.
Investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting, but said a passenger in Corrales-Rosales's own car shot him as they were parked on the right shoulder of the highway. A suspect in the case turned himself in to police this afternoon.
California Highway Patrol and San Leandro police officers were investigating a multi-vehicle crash reported at 12:55 a.m. near the Marina Boulevard off-ramp when they heard gunshots at 2:10 a.m., police said.
They saw a car parked on the right shoulder of the freeway just north of the crash scene and found Corrales-Rosales suffering gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Investigators identified a suspect later that night who they believe knew Corrales-Rosales and was in the car with him that night. Police obtained a warrant for his arrest and he surrendered to the CHP Monday afternoon, according to police.
He was arrested on suspicion of murder. Police have not yet identified him.
